About Malvern Road Psychiatry

Malvern Road Psychiatry at 731 Malvern Road, Toorak, is the location for the medico-legal and private clinical practices of Dr Nathan Serry and Dr David Weissman. Both Dr Serry and Dr Weissman are consultant psychiatrists with combined medico-legal and private clinical practices.

Dr Nathan Serry

Dr Nathan Serry is a Consultant Psychiatrist in private practice. He has a combined medico-legal and private clinical practice.

 

Qualifications:

FRANZCP     Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists 1987

 

Dr Serry conducts independent medico-legal assessments for plaintiff law firms, the TAC, various WorkSafe insurance agencies, as well as for other independent bodies.

 

Dr Serry is a former member of the Medical Panels.

 

Dr Serry has previously worked in private practice at the Millswyn Clinic, at the Albert Road Clinic and at Hawthorn Road Consulting Suites from 2004 until 2017.

 

He was previously a senior Consultant Psychiatrist at St. Vincent’s Public Hospital in Melbourne.

 

Dr Serry is registered with AHPRA and is a member of the forensic section of the Victorian Branch of the RANZCP and is on the advisory panel for Joint Medical
Examinations (JME) for the TAC and plaintiff law firms.

 

Dr Serry is one of four peer reviewers for both WorkSafe and the TAC regarding the assessments undertaken by independent psychiatrists.

Dr David Weissman

Dr David Weissman is a Consultant Psychiatrist in private practice. He has a combined medico-legal (civil forensic psychiatry) and private clinical practice.

Private Practice

Dr Weissman is a consultant psychiatrist who has been working in private practice since 1997. He had a public hospital appointment at Alfred Hospital, Melbourne as a consultation-liaison psychiatrist between 1997 and 2005, inclusive.

 

Adjunct Lecturer

In September 2002, Dr Weissman was appointed as an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Epidemiology and Preventative Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University. The original appointment was until 31 December 2006. The appointment as an Honorary Lecturer was renewed on 7
April 2020 until 6 April 2021.

 

Peer Reviewer

Dr Weissman was listed as a Peer Reviewer in the Independent Medical Examiner’s (IME) Quality Assurance Program (QAP) (forming part of the Health Services Group (HSG)) assessing IMEs working for the Transport Accident Commission and WorkSafe Victoria.

 

Impairment Assessment Training

In July 2006, Dr Weissman completed a training course in the updated psychiatric impairment evaluation guide, the G.E.P.I.C.
In April 2011, Dr Weissman completed the Core (Stream 2) Module of Impairment Assessment Training.
In September 2014, Dr Weissman successfully completed the Psychiatry Module (Stream 2) of Impairment Assessment Training.
In November 2014, Dr Weissman successfully completed the Nervous System (Stream 2) Module of Impairment Assessment Training.

 

State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) – Appointment as an Authorised Health Practitioner

Dr Weissman’s period of appointment is 15 October 2020 to 14 October 2023. In January 2021, Dr Weissman completed the Permanent Impairment Training Program for CTP issues endorsed by the NSW Government State Insurance Regulatory Authority in the following modules: Core; and Mental and Behavioural Disorders.

 

Medical Panels

From 1 January 2020, Dr Weissman was re-appointed to the list of practitioners eligible to be nominated to a Medical Panel by the Governor-in-Council, for the period to 31 December 2022.

 

Medico-legal Assessments

Experience – As of 1st January 2020, Dr Weissman had performed well over fourteen thousand (14,000) medico-legal psychiatric assessments and reports.
